Apple Inc., the makers of iPhone and Apple Watch, have finalized preparations towards launching iPad 3, the successor to iPad 2, in the 1st quarter of 2016
KGI Securities analyst , Ming-Chi Kuo, claimed recently that Apple maybe looking to launch the successor to the iPad 2: the iPad 3 as early as March next year. According to him, the company will launch the iPad 3 in the first half of 2016, where it is expected to hold a launch event in March to unveil the second generation its watches and possibly the long-rumoured 4-inch iPhone 6C. Chances are the company may have another product up its sleeve for the March event, aka, the iPad 3.
That being said, Kuo claims the new iPad will not include the headline feature of the new iPhones. The iPad 3 will come sans Apple’s newly developed pressure sensitive technology, aka, 3D Touch.
“iPad Air 3 will opt not to feature 3D Touch because of production issues. While we think the 3D Touch supply chain produced more to avoid shortages in the early stages, slower end-product demand and improved back-end assembly yield have resulted in the current high inventory. As 1Q16 demand looks to slow on seasonality and competition from other brands’ new models, we believe 3D Touch supply chain capacity utilisation is currently lower than peak level of 30%, and that will last through 1Q16,” says the analyst.
Moreover the same production issue will force the company to use the same 3D Touch in the iPhone 7 as it uses in the iPhone 6S, as it is.
According to the analyst “3D Touch has been one of the most severe production bottlenecks in iPhone 6s supply chain.” This is why Apple will keep it untouched in the upcoming iPhones and will opt not to give one in the next iPad.
